It’s already made a splash in Japan and Europe, now the good ‘ole U.S. of A gets the chance to blow away baddies from the future in the old-school style sequel Contra Rebith. Rebirth isn’t a remix of the original, but instead takes the 16-bit retro look and feel, then adds a new story, levels and a few sparkly graphics to boot.
Premiering at arcades in 1987, the original Contra brought the non-stop explosive feeling from the Rambo movies (not the stinky NES game) and mixed it with sci-fi side-scrolling co-op action. The game was an instant hit and dominated the Nintendo Entertainment System the following year.
Contra Rebirth releases today via the WiiWare downloadable games service available on the Wii console.
